According to the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety, or NETS, spiked helmets may not be legally sold as motorcycle helmets. They do not meet the U.S. Department of Transportation\’s Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards FMVSS 218. Spiked, or other non-compliant, motorcycle helmets must be sold as novelty helmets and offer no protection to the rider during an accident.References:NETS: Motorcycle Helmets for All RidersJoenel Umal: Motorcycle Riders: Does your helmet meet DOT standards?
